The brief
Funders, journalists and builders had anecdotes about African XR. They didn't have a shared reference with sources, geography and language they could pass along.
The report set out to map the opportunities, challenges and players across the continent.
The approach
- Survey
Surveys reached respondents in 20 African countries.
- Interviews and desk research
Creator interviews, social media and desk research sit alongside the survey data.
- Launch
Announced at Meta's XR exhibition in Lagos in October 2022.
The outcome
The report made a continent's VR and AR practice citable. Builders, institutions and the people deciding where to invest can point to one source.
It was led by Judith Okonkwo (Imisi 3D) and Dale P. Deacon (then Team Epic).
